CHEVERLY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Cheverly neighbors, city employees and police officers gathered at the community center Thursday afternoon to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together.
Mayor Kayce Munyeneh said she invited anyone who wanted to come and get a good meal since some residents didn’t have travel plans and might not have family to spend the holiday with.

“I have lots to be thankful for so I wanted to share some food and spend time with residents here," she said. "... This is my first Thanksgiving without my baby. I have a 7-year-old and so I thought if I am by myself, maybe my residents might be too. And there is no need for us to be by ourselves we can do that all together."
The meal had all the traditional Thanksgiving items like turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Cheverly hosts the meal every year for the community.
