A private property owner has blocked a small trail segment that connects a Littleton park with the popular High Line Canal Trail. But city officials in the south metro city say they are hopeful that access will be restored. Littleton officials on Tuesday posted on the city’s account on the social media site X about the closure which cuts off direct access to the High Line Canal from Jackass Hill Park. The park is located at the intersection of South Prince Street and West Jackass Hill Road. “The city is aware of the closure of the High Line Canal access trail at Jackass Hill Park. The access trail is on private property and was closed by the property owner. The city will engage with the property owner to attempt to reach a solution,” the post read. Littleton learned of the closure on Saturday evening, according to City Manager Jim Becklenberg. The city’s leadership and partners are hopeful the situation can be resolved and access will be restored. “The city is respectful of private property rights and is looking forward to engaging with the property owner along with its partners, South Suburban Parks and Recreation District and the High Line Canal Conservancy, to re-open the trail as expeditiously as possible,” Becklenberg said in a statement. The 71-mile-long High Line Canal is an irrigation waterway that has become a popular recreational amenity passing through Denver, Highlands Ranch, Littleton and other communities.
