The collision caused the school bus to roll onto its side. Seven students on board, and Perez, were sent to the hospital. Two students were left with broken bones.
A criminal complaint said witnesses told police Perez was street racing and going more than 100 miles per hour when he crashed into the bus carrying more than 20 students.
This week, a motion to dismiss the case was denied. On Monday, Perez is expected to be on a bench trial where there will be no jury and Judge Bruce Fox will decide if he is guilty of 17 counts of child abuse. The trial is expected to last until December 12.
