ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque (CABQ) has announced that they're working on a housing voucher system after "misuse" of funds. The CABQ works with the Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico (SHCNM) to issue housing vouchers to those in need. However, officials said SHCNM was misusing the funds meant for vouchers. Instead, they were using some of that money for "operational and administrative expenses." The city said they won't be renewing their contract with the group and has stopped payments for vouchers. “Through these actions, we’re course correcting to protect the most vulnerable in our community and to safeguard public dollars,” said Associate Chief Administrative Officer Carla Martinez. “We will do everything in our power to recover the mismanaged funds, while also working with our partners to keep clients in their homes.” River of Lights: An inside look at the new and returning tasty treats After housing voucher clients reached out, alongside regular monitoring, the CABQ became aware of the issue. Officials said SHCNM owes $200,000 in back payments to landlords.
