SFR: Man in custody on arson charges after fire in Suffolk on Thanksgiving

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A man is in police custody after a fire in Suffolk on Thanksgiving afternoon.
Carlton Turner, 32, of Suffolk, was charged with arson of a dwelling and is being held at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to the 100 Block of Independence Court for a residential structure fire around 2:20 p.m.

Fire crews responded to light smoke showing from a two-story residential structure. Suffolk Police arrived and took a man into custody for suspicion of attempted arson and other charges.
Turner has now been officially charged.

Crews entered the structure and found a fire in the interior of the structure and smoke throughout the residence. The fire was quickly extinguished and the structure was ventilated. Firefighters searched the interior of the structure and found no one else in the interior.
The fire was placed under control at 2:40 p.m.
The cause and origin of the fire is being investigated, and the man that was placed into custody by Suffolk Police is being investigated by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office as a person of interest regarding the fire at this residence.
