HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A hiker was rescued Tuesday night after becoming injured while attempting to assist a lost hiker on the Maunawili Trail. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a 911 call at 9:35 p.m. on November 27, 2024, reporting an injured hiker on the trail. Six fire units, staffed with 16 personnel, were dispatched to the scene. The first responders arrived at 9:50 p.m. and secured a landing zone for air operations. According to HFD, a group of three hikers—two men and a dog—had started their hike to help a woman and her two dogs, who had become lost off the trail. Light showers and cool trades for Thanksgiving and Black Friday While searching for the woman, one of the male hikers sustained an injury and was unable to continue down the trail. Rescue teams reached the injured hiker’s location at 10:15 p.m. and assessed his condition. The hiker was then safely transported to the landing zone by Air 1 at 10:45 p.m. where Emergency Medical Services took over his care. The female hiker and her two dogs were flown to the landing zone at 11:16 p.m., while the remaining male hiker and his dog were able to walk out with the assistance of fire department personnel.
