(FORT CARSON, Colo.) — A story of a family's resilience and never giving up reached its resolution just before Thanksgiving when the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) said a cat and their family were reunited after nearly two and a half years apart. According to HSPPR, in May of 2022, Rizzo went missing from her family's home on Fort Carson. Her family searched high and low for her but no one could find her. The family never stopped looking for her, even after the family was reassigned to North Carolina earlier in 2024. The family kept checking HSPPR's website, hoping that Rizzo would show up someday. The week before Thanksgiving, HSPPR got a Facebook message. Rizzo's mom was reaching out, asking if HSPPR could help identify a black cat that had recently been brought in from Fort Carson. HSPPR compared photos of Rizzo with the cat in question and positively identified the cat as Rizzo. After two years, five months, and four days, Rizzo was found. Rizzo's mom wanted to remind everyone never to give up, no matter how long it takes, even when it seems hopeless. Even if it takes 888 days.
