FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Each year, police officers take on the roles of Santa's helpers, looking to spread some holiday cheer to children in Fairfax County. The police department works with others to collect and distribute toys, games, and books for Santa's Ride, and to promote the 2024 effort, Chief Kevin Davis and his staff drew inspiration from the sitcom The Office. The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) shared a video on its YouTube page featuring people talking about the annual event, which began in 1988, and brainstorming about the video they should shoot to let people know about it. Indoor water park, convention center inspired by Africa to open in Spotsylvania County The video...about the video...takes on the documentary feel that The Office had, with plenty of interviews mixed in with continually moving camera shots. The video ends with a list of the locations where people can donate new, unwrapped toys, books, and games that will go to children at hospitals and through charitable organizations. The deadline to drop off items is Dec. 9.
