Indoor water park, convention center inspired by Africa to open in Spotsylvania County

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Something big is in the works when it comes to family destinations in Virginia, something really big...and really wet.
Kalahari Resorts & Conventions said it expects to open in Spotsylvania County in 2026, making it the fifth location for the company.

Kalahari's website said it will be the largest indoor water park in Virginia, offering more than 175,000 square feet of "fun, 900 family-friendly suites, and a massive convention center."
The company said the resort will be situated off of Interstate 95, adding it is "the perfect adventure destination for families in the DC-Maryland-Virginia metro area, and neighboring cities."

The inspiration for the resort and convention center is "the beauty and magic of Africa."
The company said the $900 million project is expected to attract more than one million visitors to Virginia each year.
