(KRON) -- An axe-wielding burglar who police say broke into a church in Antioch Thursday morning found himself in an all-holy mess when he was confronted by the church's pastor. According to the Antioch Police Department, the pastor at First Family Church on Contra Loma responded to check an alarm early Thursday morning.

That's when he encountered the burglar, who'd used an axe to break a church window to gain entry. The burglar, according to police, "decided to fight with the pastor instead of repent."
But the pastor apparently had more than just the moral high ground, but gained the actual upper hand and restrained the suspect until police arrived and placed him in custody.
"We are thankful today that the pastor was uninjured during this incident and hopeful that with amazing community members like we have been highlighting lately, we can turn the tide on crime in our city," said Antioch PD.
