ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The River of Lights crew has been hard at work preparing for this season's events, and that is no exception when it comes to the kitchen. KRQE News 13's Annalisa Pardo went out to the ABQ BioPark's Botanic Garden to get an inside look at the new and returning tasty treats at this year's River of Lights. Like each year before, the ABQ BioPark's team of chefs has put together a menu to delight guests' tastebuds while they take in the sights around them. To keep wait times low, drinks and snacks are available at locations throughout the Botanic Garden, as well as at the Shark Reef Cafe. With around 30 to 35 items on the menu each year, the River of Lights chefs ensure that there is something designed for each palate. The food planning begins in August and only ramps up through the opening date, which, this year, is set for November 30. More River of Lights coverage Some of this year's new menu items include parmesan boneless chicken wings and green chile queso blanco sauce. Returning dessert favorites include holiday sugar cookies and house-made fudge. When it comes to drinks, hot chocolate, cider, and coffee are available all throughout the ABQ BioPark. But it wouldn't be River of Lights without an extra special twist; the delicious drinks are available with a variety of toppings and mix-ins, including churros, caramel syrup, marshmallows, chocolate-covered smores, alcohol – for those 21 years old and over – and, of course, whipped cream.
