ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The annual Wedge Waddle at the South Wedge Neighborhood was held Thanksgiving morning for a good cause!
Participants spent the beginning of their Thanksgiving walking, running, and waddling around the South Wedge Neighborhood to benefit St. Joe's House of Hospitality, an organization that provides food, clothing, and shelter for those in need.
Those who attended the event were encouraged to donate socks to St. Joe's. According to the organizers, socks are the most needed clothing for shelters. This year, 1,300 socks were collected!
Jennifer Posey is the executive director of the South Wedge Planning Committee and the owner of Hedonist Artisan Chocolates and Ice Cream, who discussed the eleventh event for the South Wedge area.
"Everyone's having fun, everyone is getting their steps in, getting a little exercise before they hang out with their families and friends and eat," Posey said.
News 8 caught up with some participants who finished the Wedge Waddle. Kiki Smith took part in the event with Henry Smith and Chris Wilke, saying they have taken part in similar events before.
'It's been a bit of a tradition, but as the kids have grown and flown, it's been nice to actually have them here with us to do it today, especially my soon-to-be daughter-in-law," Kiki Smith said.
"It's a great time with the community, it's awesome, the cool rain actually felt good as I heated up," added Chris Wilke.
