Church in downtown Fort Wayne preparing over 1,500 Thanksgiving meals for community

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A church's soup kitchen in downtown Fort Wayne is set to serve more than 1,500 meals for Thanksgiving.
Thursday, the St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church - on the corner of Lafayette Street and Jefferson Boulevard - is hosting a feast that includes turkey, potatoes, beans, pie and other sides and desserts, according to a press release.
The sit-down "dinner" is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carryout meals will be ready starting at 1 p.m.
The annual event, which began in 1978, is open to anyone. About 150 volunteers are preparing the meal, including St. Mary parishioners and guests from out of state.
Before the feast, the church has Mass at 9 a.m.
