EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - Del Valle suffers its first loss of the season - a season ending one -against Lovejoy during the Area Round of playoffs.
The Conquistadores were overwhelmed on both sides of the ball, leading to the 45-21 victory for the Leopards.
"This is a feeling we really aren't used to, it hurts," said Del Valle head coach Rudy Contreras.
"It sucks," said senior wide receiver Ryu Nunez. "We did that all year and we got this close. All year we talked about this storm but unfortunately the storm did not hit."
Despite this loss ending the year, the Conquistadores close out its 2024 chapter with an impressive season left behind. Del Valle finishes the year with an 10-1 record, making it Area for the first time since 2020. They were they only team El Paso team this season to make it out of Bi-District.
"I think we go down as one of, if not the best teams in El Paso," Nunez said. "I am proud of my boys."
"It was a great season for these kids," said Contreras. "They came out here and played four quarters of Del Valle football and give us everything they had and they did."
