MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) – Some people in Wheaton are feeling a void on Friday after one of their neighbors died in a house fire.
The fire started in a home on Livingston Street Thursday night. The woman who lived there was in her 80s.

Kristen, who lives two doors down from the home where the fire started, said the woman's death is a great loss for their community.
“Our family will remember her as a neighbor with little acts of kindness that have a big impact,” she said.
Kristen said the woman who lived there used to do so much just to put a smile on so many faces.
“Every year [she] would make a Christmas card,” she said. “One of the things that came to mind last night as I was reflecting on the tragedy was how much I’m going to miss receiving those Christmas cards.”
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) officials said the woman appeared to catch on fire before she was able to put the flames out herself.
A neighbor called 911 and medics rushed the woman to the hospital with severe burns. She died there.

MCFRS crews returned to Livingston Street Friday, going door-to-door handing out pamphlets on fire safety and installing smoke alarms for homes that needed them.
Kristen said she will truly miss her longtime neighbor and friend.
“She was always so appreciative of even the littlest of things,” she said. "Even if we just stopped by for a moment for a chat. I think it just goes back to that neighborly love and appreciation for each other.”
