MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Madera County Sheriff's Office announced Friday that their K-9 Obie, who was shot in the line of duty earlier this week, has been released from the hospital and is now home.
Obie was shot on Wednesday following an exchange of gunfire with a 41-year-old man who rammed into several vehicles in Oakhurst.
According to deputies, Obie was transported to an emergency veterinarian clinic in Fresno the same day. Veterinarians said that he was expected to make a full recovery following an extensive rehabilitation period but would live the rest of his life with shotgun pellets.
Deputies said that now that Obie begins his long road to healing, they ask the community for their continued thoughts as well as privacy for him and his family.
According to the sheriff's office, Obie has a remarkable story and has had a huge impact on everyone.
