Misuse of generator sends Fresno firefighter, residents to hospital

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Three people, including a responding firefighter, were sent to the hospital Thursday night after misuse of a generator, Fresno Fire says.
Upon arriving at the complex near Clinton Avenue and First Street, crews say they found the tenant had been using a gas-powered generator inside his unit. It is important to never run gas-powered equipment indoors, including gas-powered generators, as they quickly produce dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide (CO).
According to crews, the high levels of carbon monoxide led to three people being hospitalized, including one of the responding firefighters.
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and only takes minutes to kill. For these reasons, crews say all households need to be equipped with a working carbon monoxide alarm.
Symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting and confusion. Anyone experiencing these symptoms is encouraged to call 911.
