FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - About 1,000 turkeys are expected to be distributed during this year's Operation Gobble in Fresno.
The turkeys will be delivered to prequalified families who will bring their "turkey tickets" to the distribution site at the Steinbeck Elementary School parking lot. According to officials, not only will turkeys be given to families but also dairy and fresh produce.
Council President Annalisa Perea describes the operation as a "symbol of hope".
"This event is a symbol of hope. By providing 1,000 turkeys, fresh produce, and dairy, we're ensuring that over 5,000 people will sit down to a warm, festive meal surrounded by their loved ones," she said.
Perea is partnering with Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, AD 27, Producers Diary, PG&E, Central California Food Back and a team of volunteers to distribute the meals.
The turkey giveaway will take place on Nov. 23 beginning at 9 a.m., "rain or shine" at the Steinbeck Elementary School Parking lot.
