SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With the holiday season around the corner, a local organization held their annual Holiday Tree Jubilee in Springfield. 22News is working for you with how this holiday event is making the season a little brighter for families in need. Bright Nights at Forest Park begins Wednesday This festive and free event, organized by the Martin Luther King Junior Family Services is back and bigger than ever. A total of 117 decorated trees were on display and given to families, who may not be able to afford one this year. "When you see all the trees, it is just a natural boost right off the bat as soon as you walk into the door," said Facility Administrator for Department of Youth Services, Katisha Woods-Johnson. The Greek Cultural Center in Springfield transformed into a winter wonderland with beautifully decorated trees adorned with sparkling lights and gifts, bringing smiles to countless families. This was part of the Martin Luther King Junior Family Services 2nd annual Holiday Tree Jubilee in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of youth Services and the Center for Human Development. All of the trees were donated by local businesses and community members and raffled off to help alleviate financial stress for families. Real estate agent with 'Buy Springfield Now' program, Jesenia Cabrera helped to decorate a tree with home decor and kitchen supplies. She says she is excited to contribute and bring happiness to a lucky family's home this holiday season. "During these hard times some people don't have a lot or many people around them, and in receiving like that it just brings joy to them and that brings joy to us," said Cabrera. The event, also featured various activities like photos with Santa, face painting, and even a hot chocolate station. "It's just heartwarming to see everyone celebrate the Christmas and holiday season, just brings joy to my heart," added Anthony Miles of Springfield. The return of this tradition has sparked not only excitement but a renewed sense of community and giving back. The Martin Luther King Junior Family Services says they are also continuing to look for volunteers and food donations ahead of the holiday season.
