Left-hander Patrick Sandoval, the Angels’ Opening Day starter last season, was one of four players who became a free agent by being non-tendered before Friday’s 5 p.m. PT deadline. Sandoval, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, would have made about $6 million in arbitration if the Angels had tendered him a contract. The Angels can still negotiate with Sandoval. He is expected back from surgery sometime late in the 2025 season, so any deal he signs would likely be a two-year deal, including 2026. The Angels also non-tendered outfielders Jordyn Adams and Bryce Teodosio and infielder Eric Wagaman. Adams and Wagaman had already been designated for assignment earlier in the week. Sandoval, 28, showed promise at times throughout his six seasons with the Angels, mostly when he posted a 2.91 ERA in 27 starts in 2022. The next spring he was one of Mexico’s starters in the World Baseball Classic. His 2023 season was a disappointment, though. He posted a 4.11 ERA in 28 starts. Last season he had a 5.08 ERA in 16 starts before his season was ended by Tommy John surgery.
