Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty. LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — A man is dead following a shooting that happened at a home in LaPlace on Thursday night, Nov. 21. According to the St. John Parish Sheriff's Office, a disturbance was reported at the home, located in the 2100 block of Williamsburg Drive, around 11:45 p.m. Man found guilty of manslaughter in Lafourche Parish case The initial investigation showed that 51-year-old Anthony Kelly, who reportedly had a history of mental illness, allegedly entered his nephews house and kicked in a bedroom door while armed with a large kitchen knife. Damien Keys, as well as his girlfriend and their infant, were inside the room. Keys reportedly told investigators that he grabbed a nearby handgun and shot at Kelly several times as he was swinging a knife. Officials say Kelly ran outside after being shot and was found lying on the ground a few blocks away. He was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Ochsner LaPlace where he was pronounced dead. Violet man arrested following drug investigation Kelly was reportedly also involved in an altercation with other family members earlier in the day. The shooting remains under investigation, however, investigators believe the shooting to have been a justifiable homicide.
