MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A motel at Lamar and Getwell is temporarily closed after it was declared a public nuisance, although people were still inside Friday evening. Police say they responded to almost 1,000 calls at the Economy Hotel, including drug sales, homicides and gang activity, between August 2022 and August of this year. Police say they made 41 arrests during that time, including for criminal trespass, warrants, thefts, drug and narcotic felonies, weapon violations, animal cruelty, criminal assault, and shooting-related incidents. Man critical, woman detained after shooting at hotel on Lamar A man was critically injured and a woman detained after a shooting at the Economy Hotel earlier this month, according to WREG archives. But while police say the Economy Hotel has been shut down, management says this is not the case and they are still in operation. The Economy Hotel is the second in Parkway Village to be deemed a public nuisance. Near the end of last month, the Memphis Extended Stay off American Way was closed after nearly 800 calls since August 2022. The same month it was shut down, Crime Stoppers tips alerted authorities to illegal drug sales in the rooms. Some reports alleged employee involvement. That motel has since reopened.
