High Point church hosts annual Thanksgiving dinner giveaway

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) -- For the 13th year in a row, members of the Williams Memorial CME Church in High Point came together to make sure every family in the Triad has food on the table this Thanksgiving.
Denean Peace has been attending the church for more than 20 years and says that people depend on packages like these more than ever.
"Right now, the cost of living is higher. Groceries are higher ... We know there's a lot of kids with the data that are showing that they don't even have money for lunch ... We just want to provide an opportunity for people to eat, especially during this time of Thanksgiving," Peace said.
Since the first annual Feeding 10,000 Thanksgiving Dinner giveaway, Pastor Robert Williams says he's met many folks from all walks of life.
"I remember one in which a lady had about 7 or 8 kids, and she came, and she was crying that she was in need ... We were able to give her clothes and other things," Williams said.
In the boxes, folks can expect many things.
"Three cans of corn. Three green beans. She has the stuffing ... I think we have macaroni as well. They'll get a turkey and fresh yams," Peace said.
As Peace spends her Friday night packing for those in need, she hopes it'll inspire other folks to have a giving heart this holiday season.
"Our pastor has a vision to support the community and pour back into the community. So as members here at the church, we just want to support his vision and just try to make the world a better place because we're such a big church, and we're so pivotal in this community," Peace said.
The annual Thanksgiving dinner giveaway will be held Saturday in the parking lot of the Williams Memorial CME Church at 3400 Triangle Lake Rd. in High Point.
It will start at 9 a.m. and go until all the boxes are gone.
