Authorities have publicly identified a 50-year-old man who was killed earlier this week when a cargo van struck him after he stopped his pickup truck on state Route 52 near Clairemont and got out of the vehicle.
Jorge Rodriguez of Chula Vista pulled over on the eastbound side of the freeway for unknown reasons shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
After he exited his Ford F-250 and stepped into an area near Regents Road, an oncoming Ford Transit hit him and his vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Rodriguez died at the scene of the accident.
