Maxwell says he successfully advocated for $150,000 to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to the county. According to Maxwell, this was the first step towards the fundraising goal of $400,000.
According to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library website, it is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of the family's income.
"Together, we can provide over 70,000 young children the tools they need to reach their fullest potential,” Maxwell said.
Early contributions from Valley Children's Healthcare, Producers Dairy, the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools and Maxwell's $150,000 donation raised a total of $230,000 for the program.
Maxwell says that with $170,000 left to raise, he is asking for the public's financial support to help the county bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to over 70,000 children in the years ahead.
