SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Turkey Trots have become a Thanksgiving tradition and are scheduled to take place all over the United States, including right here in San Diego County. Below is a list of some Turkey Trots to help people burn calories before their Thanksgiving feasts, or for those who simply want to embrace the holiday spirit and give back to the community. Where to ice skate in the San Diego area Encinitas Turkey Trot When: 10k starts at 7:30 a.m. and 5K begins at 8 a.m. Where: South Coast Highway 101 and West D Street in Encinitas. Why: Funds raised through the event will support the Veterans Association of North County (VANC) with the goal of reducing PTSD and veteran suicide. A grant will also be given to Boy Scouts of America - Encinitas Troop 776. O'side Turkey Trot When: Early Wave 5K starts at 6:45 a.m., Main Wave 5K starts at 8:05 a.m., Kids 1-mile race starts at 10:00 a.m. and Kids 1/5-mile race starts at 10:25 a.m. Where: The Early Wave and Main Wave 5Ks will kick off at 330 N. Coast Hwy., the Kids 1-mile race will start at Tyson and Pacific streets and the Kids 1/5-mile race will begin at Tyson Park. Why: Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. North County Turkey Trot When: 5k starts at 7:30 a.m. with Kids Fun Run to follow at 8:45 a.m. Where: 4S Ranch Boys and Girls Club, located at 16118 4S Ranch Pkwy. in San Diego. Fleet Feet Thanksgiving Day 5K When: 8 a.m. Where: The Fleet Feet store in The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch, located at 5980 Village Wy. #108 in San Diego. Why: This year, the event will raise funds for the Molly's Angels Foundation and Kevin Hopp, an educator who runs in honor of his former student, Molly. Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary Coronado Turkey Trot When: 8 a.m. Where: Tidelands Park, located at 2000 Mullinex Dr. in Coronado. Why: Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. Father Joe's Villages Thanksgiving Day 5K When: 7:15 a.m. Where: The start line will be at Cabrillo Bridge and run through Balboa Park, located at 1549 El Prado in San Diego. Why: The funds raised will benefit Father Joe's Villages' food services programs which provide more than 900,000 meals annually to people in need.
