The North Bay has been particularly hard hit by an atmospheric river storm that has pummeled the Bay Area for several days now. So far, the Russian River has mostly stayed within its banks, but there has been some flooding.
On Friday morning, several vehicles and buildings were submerged in several feet of water at a construction site on the south side of the river. Crews were on-hand trying to clear debris and save equipment.
The National Weather Service is predicting that the Russian River will hit the minor flooding stage around 6 p.m. Friday. The NWS is also predicting that the river will peak around 4 a.m. Saturday morning and that the water level will hopefully start to recede.
While area residents are concerned about flooding, they are also breathing a sigh of relief that the fire danger is gone -- at least for this year.
