(KRON) – A brave 10-year-old protected her siblings and herself from a carjacker with an “onslaught of punches,” according to the Antioch Police Department. The 10-year-old, who was identified as Aliyah, was with her mother who went into the Antioch Florist store to drop off flowers. As she was making a quick errand in the store, Aliyah and her siblings waited in the car. Antioch PD said a man entered the car, attempting to steal the vehicle. The suspect did not know that Aliyah may be young but she was ready to defend her siblings. According to police, Aliyah courageously “jumped from the back seat and began pummeling the would be car thief with an onslaught of punches.”  The suspect was not able to keep up with the young girl's jabs and fell from the driver's seat, then began to flee the scene.  Aliyah and her siblings informed their mother of the incident and called authorities.  Officers were able to collect DNA evidence from the car and obtained the footage showing the suspect attempt to take the vehicle.  On Thursday, Aliyah, the niece of an Antioch police officer, was awarded a gift basket for her bravery.
