Police say Michael Mountjoy was fighting with another man near Central and Alvarado in February 2024 when he fired a shot. No one was injured in the shooting, but APD Chief Medina was in his unmarked truck with his wife right next to the fight. Once the gun went off, Medina sped through a red light and crashed into another car severely injuring the driver.
Mountjoy was in front of Judge Joseph Montano appealing the decision to keep him in custody until his trial. Judge Montano denied the appeal and Mountjoy will continue waiting for trial behind bars.
