LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A man has been found guilty of manslaughter in connection with an incident that occurred in Matthews, La. According to the Lafourche Parish District Attorney's Office, the man, identified as Duane Ryan Jr., was outside of a casino, arguing with a woman inside of a vehicle, appearing to tug back and forth. At that time, 59-year-old Chris Chiasson paused in front of the vehicle while on the way to his own parked car. Violet man arrested following drug investigation “While not entirely definitive, the video does show the victim standing non-aggressively, with both hands in his pockets, positioned on the opposite side from the defendant, and appearing to retreat moments before being violently struck in the head by the defendant," said Chief of Violent Crimes Shaun George. The jury deliberated for just over an hour before delivering a unanimous guilty verdict. Ryan faces up to 40 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Sentencing is planned for January, 2025.
