This stems from a deadly shooting that took place in February 2023. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were originally called to the 4300 block of Mill View Court on Indy's northeast side.
There, IMPD said they found a male and female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The male later died from his injuries and was identified as then-25-year-old Gerald Lewis III.
Police said the woman who was shot was the mother of Hurt's child, and Lewis was her current boyfriend. Per court documents, Hurt and the woman were arguing about visitation because Hurt would not let the woman see their child.
Hurt was originally given a 47-year sentence, publicly available online court records show. 40 of these will be served in the Indiana Department of Correction, and the additional seven were suspended with three years on probation. Hurt also has 636 days — or a little less than two years — of jail credit.
