BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As Christmas is right around the corner, the Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge has one week to get over 150 families sponsored for its community Christmas program.
The program assists around 500 families in need with Christmas gifts during the holiday season every year. Stephanie Sterling, executive director of the Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge, emphasizes any type of donation will make a difference.
"We really don't want to call the families back and tell them, you know, they're not going to have Christmas this year. Their children aren't going to have presents under the tree, and it would be, you know, a blessing to someone else if they donated even a little bit," Sterling said.
Items are as simple as everyday necessities, toiletries, bikes for kids and more. Money donations are also welcomed and will be used to purchase gift cards for the families.

"Our families do have wish lists on the website, and most of the time that wish list consists of basic needs, like bed sheets or towels or bikes for children. Lots of times its basic needs and some of the families are not asking for extravagant gifts," Sterling said.
The deadline to sign up is Nov. 30. To sign up, click here.
