Lake Bluff and Lake Forest school districts proposing increases in tax levies
Nov 22, 2024
All local property owners can expect to pay a little bit more in property taxes next year as all three local public school districts are set to increase their individual levy.
The public elementary school boards at Lake Forest District 67 and Lake Bluff District 65 plus Lake Forest Community High School District 115 all passed their tentative property tax levies in November.
At Lake Forest District 67, the school board unanimously passed a tentative 3.96 % increase for existing property owners at their Nov. 19 meeting. The impact would be an additional $188 on a home valued at $1 million, according to Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Hermes.
At Lake Forest High School, the school board approved a 3.4 % increase on Nov. 12. Hermes told the board that would lead to a $154 increase on a $1 million home.
The property tax levy is separate from the nearly $106 million passed by voters in 2023 for a renovation of Lake Forest High School.
LFHS represented 28.4 % of the total property tax bill, while District 67 took up 26.4 % in the last levy, according to City of Lake Forest Finance Director Elizabeth Holleb.
Meanwhile, the District 65 school board passed a tentative 3 % increase for existing property owners on Nov. 19, according to Director of Finance and Operations Jay Kahn.
That would lead to a property tax raise of $170 for a $600,000 home.
District 65 represents 40 % of the overall village’s property tax bill, Kahn said.
All three school boards are expected to pass their final levy in December.
