One Enchanted Evening kicks out holiday season in Clovis
Nov 21, 2024
CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The holiday season starts early in Old Town Clovis.
Despite daytime highs in the 70s, and fall colors still present on the trees, people still turned out to get into the holiday spirit at One Enchanted Evening.
And it's huge for the shops that line the streets of Old Town.
"This is my big event. This is the thing we look forward to all year long," Jennifer Green, a business owner, said.
She operates the gift and antique shop, Once Upon A Time on Pollasky Avenue. She said she lives for Christmas, dressing up as Cindy Lou Who for the event. And that's just the start -her store is more festive than Santa's workshop.
She said not only is One Enchanted Evening fun for her and her staff, but this event also helps their bottom line, reminding shoppers of the magic of local businesses.
"We're really hurting because of the hot weather. And then with the economy the way it's been. So it really means a lot for us, you know, So stop shopping at the big box stores and Amazon and support local businesses," Green said.
And organizers like Heather Frantzich agree that it's not just about the horse-drawn carriage rides, hot chocolate, and the classic car show -she said the event makes a real impact on businesses in Old Town, and it takes lots of planning.
"Oh, they've worked for a couple of months on tonight's event I know we worked on it starting in June," Frantzich said.
And it's not just fun for businesses. Eric Pentell's family got to get festive too. They decked out their daughter's wagon with lights and ornaments, so they could stroll through Old Town Clovis in style.
"We like to participate as much as we can and make it as fun as we can and hopefully make it a little fun for other people too," Pentell said.
Those who missed the event are encouraged to attend to Small Business Saturday, following Thanksgiving and shop local then. There is also the Clovis Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
