EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Volunteers gathered for an annual tradition to deliver turkeys to families in need in East Providence.
Over 3,000 turkeys and 2,600 food baskets full of holiday trimmings will be donated and delivered across the state to feed over 18,000 people this year.
Police departments escorted the vans and vehicles through the delivery route in each city and town in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and assist with loading and unloading the turkeys and baskets.
Some of the deliveries this year included Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence and Northern RI, Amos House, Salvation Army of Providence, Salvation Army of Pawtucket, YMCA’s of Greater Providence, Little Sisters of the Poor, and East Providence Senior Center. Our Massachusetts deliveries include St. Anthonys of Padua, Good Shepard Parish, Santo Christo Church, St Vincents Home for Children, and the Seekonk Senior Center.
The annual turkey run was created by the owner of Frankie’s International Bistro in Plainville, Ed Medeiros.
This is the 11th year of the annual tradition.
