OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma City couple says their worst nightmare came true after a man broke into their house in the middle of the night earlier this month. The incident happened November 6 near southwest 44th Street and May Avenue. Hilda Salazar told News 4 she and her husband were asleep, well after midnight, when they received a rude awakening. Court documents identify that suspect as Humberto Rangel Junior. Salazar said she and her husband had no idea who he was, and that she had spoken with a neighbor, which they told her Rangel tried opening their door first before coming over to her home. Humberto Rangel Jr. Oklahoma County Detention Center. "I was having a panic attack," said Salazar. "I was hiding, and I thought that he had a gun or something and he was going to kill us." Salazar said Rangel was, thankfully, not armed, but video she shared with News 4 shows him turning lights on and off in the home before Salazar said Rangel confronted both her and her husband in their bedroom. "I started to have contractions," said Salazar. "Thank God my husband was with me, and he started fighting with my husband." Salazar said her husband was able to get Rangel out of the house through the backyard. Video she shared shows Rangel trying to get back into the house, before seemingly panicking and hopping over a neighboring fence. "He tried to come back to the house and then when he heard the police officers, he jumped the fence into the next house," said Salazar. Oklahoma City Police eventually caught up with Rangel and made an arrest. Rangel is facing burglary and assault charges. Salazar says the door he's accused of breaking, cost a few hundred dollars to fix. She says her family is also enhancing their security, and says she wishes Rangel had handled the situation differently. "That's not the way to run up to the house," said Salazar. "That's not the way to ask for help."
