LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) The Oleika Shriners Temple is searching for answers after a headstone commemorating the end of a Shriners band was allegedly stolen over a month ago. “We checked our surveillance tape and we saw this white truck pull up, a gentleman gets out of the truck, picks it up puts it in his truck and drives it right out of the parking lot, and that’s all we really know at this point,” Coleman said. The theft, reported to Lexington Police on October 16, is now the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week. “I came in and I called the police department to make a report,” said Jeff Coleman, a volunteer at the temple. “They sent an officer out here to take the report, and I think the detective called wanting video that we had, and I think that’s the last contact I had with the Lexington Police Department,” said Coleman. The temple confirmed no one was buried under the headstone, but it held sentimental and historical value for its members. “We don’t really understand why you’d want to take it, and we’re not really interested in putting somebody in jail. Just leave it here on the front porch and we’ll put it back to where it goes. We’ve searched our souls trying to figure out why somebody else would want to take that. It doesn’t mean anything to anybody else unless you’re a member here.” Anyone with information is urged to contact Lexington Police or leave an anonymous tip with Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.     Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: Bluegrass Crime Stoppers, community news, Crime News, headstone theft, Kentucky, Lexington, Lexington Police, oleika shriners temple
