Two men were shot, one fatally, outside a Bronx apartment building early Sunday, police said. Alvin Perez, 33, was shot in the arm and chest and a 36-year-old man was blasted in the arm and wrist on Morris Ave. near Kingsbridge Road about 1 a.m., cops said. Medics rushed both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Perez died. Theodore Parisienne for New York Daily NewsA woman reacts at the scene where two men were shot seated inside a black sedan double-parked on Morris Ave. in the Bronx. The surviving victim was in stable condition Sunday morning, cops said. On Sunday, a trail of blood drops could be seen in the foyer leading to the building lobby and more blood could be found on the sixth floor, where the victim’s family lived. “My family’s not doing too good right now,” said Perez’s sister, who didn’t give her name. “(He’s) no trouble,” she added.” He’s from here. He doesn’t have problems with nobody. He’s a working person. He works for NYCHA…. He was a father.” Police cordoned off with yellow tape a black four-door sedan with its engine still running the victims are believed to have been sitting inside when shot. Five bullet holes were left in the driver’s-side window. One neighbor, Mir, 20, who didn’t give his last name, said he heard about seven shots and believes the gunman was on a scooter. “I looked out the window. I didn’t see much. I just saw some bullet holes in the car,” he said. “I heard a scooter. An electric scooter. I heard it revving and then speeding off afterwards. I heard the gunshots go off and he just sped off.” Police have made no arrests. Perez often hung out outside the building, Mir said. “He would always be outside. I used to talk to him briefly. He was calm. I’d say, ‘What’s up?’ to him,” he said. “He would sit outside the building. I never saw him in the car. Yesterday was the first time.” “I’m upset,” he added. “I didn’t know him much but I used to see him around. But it hurts seeing someone from the block.” The shooting marks the ninth homicide so far this year in the Bronx’s 52nd Precinct, which saw nine killings in all of 2023, NYPD statistics show.
