ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Folks picked up their bean bags Saturday for a good cause. One local group, 13-Thirty Cancer Connect, hosted its inaugural Cornhole VS. Cancer tournament. The goal was to raise money for teens and young adults living with caner in the Greater Rochester area. The friendly competition pitted 16 teams of two against each other at Rochester Beer Park. The organization has been serving the community since 2001, helping those ages 13 to 39, as its name suggests, battle cancer. 13-Thirty Cancer Connect supports young people through free peer programs. It also raises awareness about young adult cancer. "This is a really important community of cancer patients to support, that is super vulnerable and very under-recognized - not just by the medical community but just, in the community at large. So, we're excited to bring some light to that," said Program Manager Claire Mckenna. She added that later this year, 13-Thirty Cancer Connect will host a fundraising gala called "Journeys: Annual Celebration of Living." You can learn more about that event here. It'll be held on Nov. 2 at Temple B'rith Kodesh at 6 p.m.
