NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The latest edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry was not short of offense. In total, 90 points were scored and the Lobos and Aggies combined for 1,042 yards, as UNM toppled NMSU 50-40. The win for the Lobos is the first of the season and the first under head coach Bronco Mendenhall. For both teams, most of the damage was done on the ground. UNM ended the night with 370 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. NMSU tallied 285 yards and four touchdowns in the ground game. Naquari Rogers led all players in his first game as the lead back with 21 carries for 122 yards and three scores. UNM quarterback Devon Dampier was also effective with his legs as he finished the game with 70 yards on eight rushes and three touchdowns. Through the air, Dampier was 13-28 for 348. Full game stats can be found here. With Saturday's result, UNM improved to 1-4 while NMSU dropped to 1-4. The Lobos now enter a bye week and will host Air Force on October 12. The Aggies return to action against Jacksonville State on Wednesday, October 9.
