SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The murder trial for an Aztec woman has been called off as court records showed she died during an emergency hospital visit. In 2022, Sierra Collins was accused of orchestrating the murder of William Johnson. investigators say surveillance video shows two men get out of an SUV outside of Johnson's home and immediately open fire before fleeing the area. The two men were identified as brothers Eli and Tyler Chaffin. Deputies alleged Collins was having a relationship with Tyler and sent threatening messages to Johnson, saying she had people who could kill him. New Mexico DOJ pressures the state to crack down on illegal fencing on public waters While in custody awaiting her trial, scheduled for later this year, court records stated Collins was granted a hospital visit earlier this month because she was having limited brain function. Records then show the case was dropped due to Collins dying. Eli Chaffin pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter in July and was sentenced to 6 years. Tyler pled no contest to second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a gun. He was sentenced to 16 years.
