FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - In the inaugural season of high school girls flag football for Fort Wayne Community Schools, South Side took home bragging rights in a thrilling 20-19 win over Snider at Jack Weicker Stadium. Bry'lee Diedrich-Williams caught the game-winning touchdown pass from her younger sister, Bri'Tanya, in the final minutes to complete a comeback win for the Archers. Snider struck first thanks to a Mylee Hurse touchdown in the first half. South Side answered with a last-second touchdown pass from Bri'Tanya Diedrich-Williams to Eliyah Brooks as the half came to a close. Coming out of halftime, Hurse burst through for another touchdown to put Snider back in front, 13-7. South Side then grabbed their first lead of the game with less than six minutes left. The Diedrich-Williams sisters connected for their first of two touchdowns on the night, putting South Side in front 14-13 after a one-point conversion. Snider regained the lead thanks to Hurse's third touchdown of the night, taking a 19-14 lead. However, Snider left too much time on the clock for South Side. The Diedrich-Williams sisters connected for the game-winning touchdown in the final minute to seal a win for the Archers. Pulling ahead: Girls flag football growing in Fort Wayne This season marks the inaugural year of high school girls flag football that is sponsored by FWCS. Along with all five Fort Wayne high schools, 22 other high schools across Indiana are sponsoring girls flag football in the hopes that it becomes the IHSAA's next emerging sport.
