Water taken from a source well in Jurupa Valley tested positive for E. coli bacteria on Sept. 25, the Jurupa Community Services District announced. The sample was taken from a water source not in the distribution system, and the source was disconnected from the system, the district announced. Additional samples taken for testing on the 26th and 27th came back negative. People in the affected zones were instructed not to drink water without boiling it first. However, the warning was lifted Saturday afternoon. It’s not clear how many people were affected by the contamination, but the district was distributing around 3,000 cases of bottled water at their headquarters on Harrel Street, at the corner of Iberia Court and Space Center Court and at the northeast corner of Camino Real and Mission Boulevard. Residents can enter their addresses online to determine whether they’re in the zones and can call customer service at 951-685-7434 for more information. E. coli can cause a variety of illnesses, including gastrointestinal infections that include diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting.
