The new Communipaw Library Branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library System is now open in Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood.Located next to the Liberty State Park Light Rail Station, the new library, says the administration, represents a significant investment in the community, serving as a next-generation facility focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics learning.  The branch is designed to help residents of all ages acquire the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital world.“With the opening of this new library branch and all of the innovative tools we are making publicly accessible here, we are going well beyond what traditional libraries offer as part of our ongoing efforts to create a more equitable and connected community,” Mayor Steven Fulop said.  The city says that the new branch offers a range of innovative amenities, including a makerspace with tools like a Cricut machine and heat press for creative projects, a public 3D printer with instructional support, and a multi-media recording studio equipped for audiovisual production. A dedicated podcast room allows users to create their own content, while a 50-seat community room serves as a versatile space for meetings and events. Additionally, a children’s center offers books, interactive programs, and a Touch Table filled with educational games to inspire young learners.“In addition to focusing on technology and education, we designed the new library to also serve as a gathering place for the community,” Director of the Department of Infrastructure Barkha Patel added.  The library will also host a variety of programs and workshops tailored to the needs of the community. From coding classes and digital media production to 3D printing workshops, these programs will provide opportunities for children to explore STEAM learning and for adults to acquire new skills or pursue creative hobbies. The first-floor space for the library, located at 295 Johnston Avenue, was acquired as part of a community giveback agreement with the developer, with the city paying $1 for the floor. The four upper floors of the building house residential units, integrating the library seamlessly into the community.“As the Branch Manager of our new library, I am thrilled to embark on this exciting journey with our Communipaw patrons.  I am committed to ensuring that our Communipaw branch becomes a cherished space fostering curiosity and growth, where everyone feels valued, empowered, and inspired,” said Communipaw Branch Manager Maisy Card. The post Jersey City Free Public Library Opens New Communipaw Branch appeared first on Jersey City Times.
