Around 11:10 Thursday night, Hurricane Helene made landfall as a very strong Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140 mph. Over 1 million people are without power and storm surges continue to slam the coast of Florida. Helene has tracked through Florida and is now a Category 1 hurricane slamming the heart of Georgia. Now as we shift our focus to our local forecast, Helene is expected to shift to the NW bringing heavy winds and rain across Central Indiana. A High Wind Warning has been issued for all of central Indiana as we could see wind gusts this evening peak at 60 mph. The wind warning will go into effect at noon and last until 1 a.m. This could cause major issues for planned outdoor events and power outages could increase this evening. Steady rain showers will continue through the evening which will help our with the drought across the state. Highs are expected to stay steady in the lower 70s. Saturday is tracking to be another soggy day with breezy conditions and steady showers throughout the day. Winds will be much lower but still stay breezy with wind gusts reaching 25 mph. We expect the roof to be closed for Sunday's Colts game with rain showers possible throughout the day. Highs will top out in the mid-70s. It looks to finally dry out during the middle of the week and temps will struggle to get out of the 60s a few days.
