TAPPAHANNOCK, Va. (WRIC) -- Answers to a Caroline County missing person’s case have come to light over three decades later -- but they've left the family with more questions than they had before. Emmaline Gray’s family has been searching for her ever since she went missing in 1991. Just this week, the family got confirmation that she had died -- despite the fact that her body was found the same year she disappeared. Back in 2022, 8News interviewed Michael Gray, who now lives in Tappahannock, trying to figure out what happened to his sister after she disappeared in Caroline 33 years ago. He’s been searching for his sister the whole time, trying to get answers from local police.  “It hurts so bad," Michael Gray said through tears. "So bad. Me and my little sister were real close -- like real brothers and sisters should be.”   FROM 2022: Brother of Virginia woman searching for answers after she disappeared 30 years ago The Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department found the 29-year-old's body in a garage on MLK Avenue on Feb. 25, 1991. But her family back in Virginia didn’t know that until just this week when, according to Michael Gray, a detective's fresh set of eyes led to a call to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office and, ultimately, to the family.   Emmaline Gray, who went missing in 1991. 'Was she put there at the house, in the garage?'”   Police said Emmaline's cause of death could not be determined and told Michael Gray that they don’t suspect foul play. Gray added that it wasn’t unusual for his sister to go to D.C., as she had friends there that she liked to visit.   Michael Gray said he and the D.C. detective compared photos to determine it was Emmaline’s body.   “Even her ears -- I always remember her ears," he said. "It [looked] just like my sister.”   Her body was cremated years ago -- and Gray said he’s not sure the police will be able to find her ashes. She left behind four children, who’ve all had to grow up without their mom.   “I’m not closing nothing until I find the perfect result that I need to know what happened to my sister," he said. "It’s not over yet. It’s not over yet. They gotta give us more answers than that.”    The detective in DC told the Grays to give him a few more weeks to see if there’s more information he can get from the medical examiner. The family does plan to hold a memorial soon and is continuing their fight to get even more answers.
