Showers are ending across the area, and conditions will improve on Friday afternoon with some sunshine and warmer temperatures back into the 70s. Dry weather will extend through the weekend, but high clouds from post-tropical Helene will stream in our direction. The hurricane made landfall along Florida’s Big Bend as a monster category 4 just shy of 11:30pm Thursday night. In addition to life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds and an incredible amount of rain will be rapidly moving inland as the storm’s center tracks towards the metro Atlanta area. Inland flooding could be catastrophic all the way up to the Southern Appalachians. Both Carolinas and Virginia have joined Florida and Georgia in issuing state of emergencies.
