In preparation for the event, numerous escort boats have arrived, bringing spectators and locals to witness the festivities. The race is expected to have a larger scale turnout, especially during the upcoming Molokai Hoe. Lori Buchanan, a Molokai resident, acknowledged the influx of visitors but noted the potential downsides, including litter and other impacts. However, she believes the economic benefits outweigh the negatives. "The historical races are always more financially beneficial," she said. No Molokai canoe race for Lahaina Canoe Club Shop managers in Kaunakakai, like Ani Van Eps of Molokai Art from the Heart, also highlighted the positive financial impact of the race. "When they have the canoe races, it's a shot in the arm for this whole island," she remarked. Lorelei Rawlins Crivelho, organizer of the Kulaia block party held the Friday before the race, emphasized the significance of the event for the local economy. "We generate well over $40,000 just in revenues from our vendors," she noted. Beyond financial benefits, the race fosters relationships and cultural exchange. "People come from all over the world, and we get to know them. It’s wonderful," Van Eps said, highlighting the spirit of aloha that the event spreads.
