Game of the Week The 4-0 Nighthawks of Northern Guilford took on the took on the 2-2 Falcons of Southeast Guilford. It was a key showdown in the Metro 4A Conference. It was wet and muddy out there, and both teams struggled to make something happen in the pouring rain. On the fourth down, Southeast faked the punt, and Byron Arant carried it all the way to midfield. But that ball was slippery. A fumble recovered by Northern's Parker Peters put the Nighthawks in possession. Northern capitalized with a big run by Amare Akers. He's one of the Nighthawks' leading rushers for good reason. Akers took it deep into Falcons territory, but he was ruled down at the two-yard line. The Nighthawks didn't find the endzone, so they settled for a field goal, making it a 3-0 game. That was kind of the theme for tonight. Northern kicked another field goal a few possessions later to stay undefeated on the season. Overall, it was a 6-0 ballgame over Southeast. Frenzy Highlights Week six of the high school football season will be one to remember for quarterback Riley Horton. After spending three seasons playing at Parkland High School, Horton decided to transfer for his senior year and become a West Forsyth Titan. The most shocking part of the transition was the huge fan base Titans football pulls in every Friday night. This week, Horton battled head-to-head against his old teammates and coaches. You'll hear the phrase, 'It's just another football game' a lot in the West Forsyth locker room. It's a philosophy Head Coach Kevin Wallace strictly emphasizes to keep a level head going into every matchup. The amount of pressure a quarterback endures is arguably more than any other position, so Horton's relaxed rituals allow him to stay focused. The Parkland and West Forsyth game was off to a slow start. Both teams put some points on the board just before the half. Horton handed it off to C.J. Blevins who easily walked into the endzone. They were successful on the two-point conversion with Horton on the quarterback keeper. Parkland was in possession, and Ethan Bailey tossed it up, but it was picked off by Arrington Kee.After a little discussion, it was ruled an interception, and West Forsyth gained possession. A few penalties held them back a bit, but the Titans finally made it to the endzone with Darell Paige rushing. The Titans went on to win this one 22-19 over Parkland.
