TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WFRV) - Elijah Vue's aunt took to Facebook to thank the community for their support, the first time she has spoken out publicly since the toddlers remains were discovered. "We, Elijah’s family want to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming love, support, and prayers you’ve shown for Elijah," said Elijah's aunt Linda Vue. "In such a difficult time, your kindness and compassion have brought us great comfort. The fact that so many of you care deeply for Elijah means the world to us, and we are forever grateful." On Sept. 13, Two Rivers police officers confirmed that the remains found by a hunter on private property near a girl scout camp in Two Rivers belonged to Elijah Vue. The boy had been missing since February when his mother's boyfriend reported him missing from a Two Rivers apartment. A desperate search effort began for the little boy that included both law enforcement officials and community members, many of whom didn't know Elijah before his disappearance. The community has held fundraisers to support the search efforts and several candlelight vigils for the boy. "We understand that many of you want to honor Elijah in your own special ways, such as through memorial services or virtual vigils," said Linda Vue. "Although our family has not been directly involved in the planning of these events, we want you to know how much we appreciate the genuine love and thoughtfulness behind them. Elijah means so much to us, and seeing the impact he’s had on others is both moving and comforting." Both Elijah's mother Katrina Baur and her boyfriend Jesse Vang (the person who reported Elijah missing) are in jail on child neglect charges. "At this time our family is grieving the loss of Elijah and we are asking for privacy as we navigate through our pain and sorrow," Linda Vue said. "Your thoughts and prayers mean so much to us, and while we may not be able to respond to everyone right now, please know that your kindness is felt and appreciated."
